Information About 2005 Wood Design Package - updated to 2009 IBC; includes 2008 SDPWS
2005 Wood Design Package five-volume set includes:
- National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction, 2005 Edition (ANSI/AF&PA NDS-2005) and related Commentary
- National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction Supplement - Design Values for Wood Construction
- Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic (SDPWS) Standard with Commentary (ANSI/AF&PA SDPWS-2005)
- ASD/LRFD Manual for Engineered Wood Construction, 2005 Edition
- Structural Wood Design Solved Example Problems, 2005 Edition
- 2008 Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic (ANSI/AF&PA SDPWS-2008).
The 2005 Wood Design Package brings together all required elements for design of wood structures in one comprehensive package. It includes design information and examples for wind and seismic conditions, sawn lumber, structural glued laminated timber, structural-use panels, shear walls and diaphragms, poles and piles, I-joists, structural composite lumber, structural connections (nails, bolts, screws), metal plate connected wood trusses, and pre-engineered metal connectors.
ANSI/AF&PA SDPWS-2008 - Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic standard with Commentary covers materials, design, and construction of wood members, fasteners, and assemblies to resist wind and seismic forces. Engineered design of wood structures to resist wind or seismic forces is either by allowable stress design (ASD); or load and resistance factor design (LRFD). The most notable new provisions of the 2008 Wind and Seismic standard include criteria for wood structural panels designed to resist combined shear and uplift from wind.
Criteria for proportioning, design, and detailing of engineered wood systems, members, and connections in lateral force resisting systems is provided. Nominal shear capacities of diaphragms and shear walls are provided for reference assemblies. Provisions of the SDPWS are generally consistent with provisions of the International Building Code (IBC), the NEHRP Recommended Provisions for Seismic Regulations for New Buildings, as well as the current design load standard ASCE-7.
