ASME A17.1-2010/CSA B44-2010 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators is intended as the basis for the design, construction, installation, operation, testing, inspection, maintenance, alteration and repair of elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, moving walks and material lifts.  This edition incorporates changes made in A17.1a-2008 and A17.1b-2009. Major changes for this edition include:

• allowance of energy conservation methods in escalator usage
• revisions of folding car-door requirements covering top-of-car clearances
