Superpave Performance Graded Asphalt Binder Specification and Testing SP-1 describes the new Superpave asphalt binder specification and the tests that it uses to classify asphalt binders (pressure aging, bending beam rheometer, dynamic shear rheometer, direct tension test, rolling thin film oven and rotational viscometer).

Superpave is a product of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) asphalt research. The relationships between the binder tests and pavement performance are described, and instruction is provided for asphalt binder selection in a pavement project's given environmental conditions.
